Hey I've been wanting to make a thread to make sure everyone was aware of the Store on this website and how it differs from buying product from some other online retailer. Then I came across this AP article about bands and making money:

http://www.altpress.com/features/entry/no_money_mo_problems/

You might not be into any of the bands mentioned in the article, but the principles are the same. I've always, always, always tried to purchase everything I can directly from the bands I love. It really is one of the main ways a band makes money.

So, the TATE Store is totally operated by the band. When we had ticket pre-sales a couple of weeks ago, that was all done by the band. What I really liked is we didn't get gouged with convenience charges like Ticketmaster and Livenation all screw us with. But obviously it cost the band money to purchase those tickets to then sell to us.

But if you're buying the album, please pre-order it from the Store here and if you're really anxious to get it, you can pre-order the digital version(s) or buy from Walmart or Best Buy *after* you buy it from the band. :)

If you can buy shirts or other merchandise at the shows, that's awesome, and you can also buy from the Store here on this site. I'm guessing new merch will be popping up soon.

Feel free to share your thoughts on buying albums, merch, etc., or other ways you try to show your support for the bands you love. Feel free to comment on the article, too, if you read it.

Climbing down off my soapbox now... :)

Hi, Serena here. I've been talking to a whole lot of all of you and I know a lot of you are poets, writers, etc.So, I thought it'd be a great idea to share anything or everything that anyone is working on. Poetry, lyrics etc. I'll start:

As I laugh and I sing and I breathe and I think I'm the king.
I know what I want
I want to give you a ring
But then I remember
All those horrible things
You said to me.
And I think,
"Oh-oh-oh, what is it like to be?
Happy and alive and whole
And survive."
These are the things
I can say and I made you cry.
If I don't have a reason
All I do is I wanna die.
If I don't have you
Then I don't really want to try.
Sometimes I wish
You were mine.

Don't hate on me!

My friend just posted this link on my facebook wall:

"On Saturday, January 21, critically-acclaimed act The Airborne Toxic Event visited HPR's Atherton Performing Arts Studio. All Things Considered/Afternoon Host Dave Lawrence welcomed an invite-only audience for a performance and interview session.

In this post, you can hear the complete session and see videos of all the music performed. The interview segments can be downloaded for your ipod or mp3 player, and each of the songs is also available as a downloadable mp3."

Hey all you TATE fans out there, how many of you are also U2 fans?

Back in 2009 Adam Clayton claimed that The Airborne Toxic Event was an album that he was listening to and he really liked. I had already known a song or two, but reading those comments are what brought be about listening to the full album and making me a TATE fan.

U2 without a doubt puts on one of the best live shows in the world. When I saw TATE live, just three weeks before seeing U2 live for the first time (second, first at their own show), I had literally seen two of the greatest live acts.

So, what's everyone's take?

Hey fellow TATE fans! I'm not sure where to post this or if this topic has been discussed previously in another thread (I did do a forum search!).

I just received TATE's vinyl collection as a Christmas present yesterday. On side 2 of the first All I Ever Wanted record, there was a mistake in the pressing: side 2 of the debut album was pressed instead (the track insert is the correct All I Ever Wanted Record 1/Side 2 insert, however). Since this is a limited pressing, I doubt that anything can be done about this, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or similar problems, with the collection, or if I have a unique, ultra rare copy. ;)

I am a little bummed, as I was looking forward to hearing "Duet" on record, but TATE is awesome--the band I've been waiting years for--and this is still a really cool release. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

I've been looking for piano and vocal sheet music, or better yet full scores – so far to no avail. Is any such book available for the debut album?

Some songs are easy -- Letter to Georgia for example is just major chords –– still, even with that song I would love to have the vocals so I can play them with a sax or piano.

Anyone know if anything has been published? I'd prefer to buy something official so TATE gets paid for their talent.

When I heard there was going to be a hawaiian tour, during the uk gig crawl last month, i knew i had to go, luckily i found a fellow tate'r who agreed with a madcap plan to go and live the dream in hawaii for a few weeks! So, weve booked some flights, tickets for the both shows and a couple of hostels on the nights of the gigs... Anyone been to the venues? its not really a sit down gig is it? any tips to help see hawaii on the cheap would be greatly appreciated too.

By the end of this year I will have seen 4 of my top 5 bands ever this year alone! If anyone's interested they are (in no particular order!) Foo Fighters, The Killers, Airborne Toxic Event, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Coldplay. Coldplay got away haha. But I'm easily most excited to see TATE.

I'm extremely excited to purchase some merch too! I really want 2 of the shirts in the store but US shipping is insane! TATE, rest assured, you will get my money.

Just trying to get a few more people to see the youtube video I just made, if you wouldn't mind listening to it and letting me know what you think I'd appreciate it.

There's also a cover of Innocence on my channel but I've been meaning to re-record that for a while as there are many mistakes.

I recently discovered TATE when "Does this mean you're moving on?" played on my Pandora station. Eventually I ended up looking at short films directed by the same person who directed the music video for this song. One of the films, titled "Mr. Handsome," is about a young woman who falls in love with her imaginary friend. At around 7:00, the camera moves to another individual on a date with his imaginary girlfriend. This guy looks a lot like Steven, the guitarist, although it's only a side view. What do you think? I'm really enjoying listening to their songs right now and this hilarious scene just makes me love them even more.

Here is the link:

Was anyone there? The soundcheck they put on was just amazing. There were only about 30 of us there so it felt like a private concert. The venue had us separated into a section a good 100 ft from the band but Mikel declared the separation "bullshit" and told us to come up to the stage and welcomed us to sit on it. Of course, I took that invitation :) (http://i.imgur.com/q44gp.jpg. Ignore the dopey grin, I was so happy I could burst). They took requests, did a quick meet & greet after, and, as always, were totally and completely gracious to the fans. I got to meet all of them this time, as opposed to last time when I met Anna and Mikel.
This was my second time seeing TATE and the first time I saw them it had (and I know how cliché this is going to sound) an immense impact on my life. The performance of All At Once from the concert in June just blindsided me with emotion. It was just one of those moments in life when you know something has changed in you. It's hard to put into words (there is much more to the story that I feel is too personal to share). Anyway, I wrote down my feelings and gratitude for this moment (along with details I have omitted here) in a letter and gave it to Noah before the soundcheck a couple of weeks ago. It was a big deal for me to put my feelings down on paper and tell them a story from the past year of my life that I have literally not told anyone else. After the soundcheck he told me he read it and thanked me for it and shared some touching words with me. I told Mikel that I had written a letter to them and had given it to Noah and his eyes lit up. I can tell that they really appreciate gestures like that from their fans. After the actual concert I reminded Mikel about it and said it would mean a great deal to me if he read it and he said "I promise I will, darlin'."
Wonderful night, wonderful people. If you all have any stories from that night I'd love to hear them!

This is pretty cool; just basically Mr. Jollett being awesome before TATE.

If you want an interview with Mikel and Noah about why the band is really good and their philosophy on success, check out this one. It's about a half hour but you can apply their principles to, pretty much, any craft and/or business. It is inspiring. I read the transcription of the interview and there is video too.

http://www.bandologie.de/the_airborne_toxic_event/bandologie_interview_the_airborne_toxic_event_english.html

If you like this interview, in a separate post on this discussion board, I am posting a great, and similar, interview with their manager Pete Galli.
