I bought the All I ever Wanted album off iTunes today and I have to say I am very disappointed with the audio quality. I also bought the deluxe All at Once album and the quality is perfect. Is it just because it is a live performance that the audio quality sucks, or the compression, or what??? I don't usually buy live stuff but I saw the broadcast on DirecTV and I was hooked. On the broadcast the audion quality was amazing...

Anyone else notice this? Maybe I should have went to the store and got the actual CD?

I have the actual CD/DVD combo that I picked up at a concert. The sound is flawless, it's got to be a problem with the download.

Compare to this youtube video off the DVD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CKat0z07kw

The download through my very nice stereo system sounds pretty much exactly like that youtube video sounds on my crappy laptop. Very hollow and missing a lot of detail that my wife and I both agree we heard on the DirecTV broadcast. Actually I have it on the DVR and that does sound much better. The download just sounds muddy is the best way I can describe it. We're not critical listeners by any stretch, but this is annoying. The live version is the greatest version of All I Ever Wanted, and I want it to sound perfect!

Yeah, if your download isn't better than the youtube track on laptop speakers, I'd say you need a chat with itunes.

I have the Blu-ray movie version and it sounds excellent so I'm definitely sure the recording setup was proper. It's lossless 48Khz/24bit though, so this is immensely greater quality than any MP3 or AAC file versions. I've seen FLAC versions of the disc online, try them out and see if the quality is improved over the MP3s. I'd like to promote more of these lossless formats so the band can recognize that their recordings aren't being fully realized and appreciated.

I got the Blu Ray version as I do with most concert recordings just so I could capture the audio through my computer. I use a blu ray drive in my PC, and recorded the entire concert via audacity while I was watching it (aside from some level tuning so I didn't get distortion through the capture). After I was done, I went through the big ass audacity file and cut out the interlude parts (where they're speaking, rehearsing, etc), saved it, then went about copying and pasting the individual songs and converting them to a format my Zune could play. I think I settled on WMA as it had the highest bitrate possible.

It's a hell of a process, but it's totally worth it. I have almost blu ray quality recordings on my PC now :D

I'm so picky about sound quality. I very rarely buy mp3's as I find them lacking in quality and volume. This is from the CD: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppElUFKl994&feature=channel_video_title

Oh and off the subject- I hate people that post songs on youtube where they mess with the pitch. This is horrible and doesn't even sound like Mikel singing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-f2kBe3qhc&feature=related

Maybe buy the actual CD/DVD, usually the sound quality of CD's are better, even after you import it to iTunes. That what I did. Bet definitely say something to iTunes.

definitely the down load has a problem, the dvd and cd sound great. if anyone wants to make cd's of the bombastic video disc that comes with the deluxe versions of TATE's first and second albums just play the disc in a dvd player and patch out from the dvd players stereo rca jacks (red and white ones) in to a tascam dr-07's 1/8 stereo line in and set the rec level and bam! you've got a sd card with the file on it which you can pop in to a pc to make a cd of the bombastics which are really great! the dr-07 lets you choose from about ten different recording formats including wav and wma but if you choose wma you can use it in any cd player. if you don't start and stop the dr-07 for each video while recording you'll get one big file that you won't be able skip tracks on...my kids love the bombastic stuff and I have to agree. TATE is the best band ever!
