Let me just start off by saying, I am a HUGE Toxic Event fan…nothing else has quite captivated my interest like they have in recent years. I was bummed when they weren’t coming back to Cleveland this leg of the tour, but decided it would be a great weekend away with my husband (who thankfully supports my TATE addiction!) to see them in Columbus. And now, I need to vent.

After months of anticipation, the weekend was here, the weather was fabulous, we were staying at a great B&B, I heard the Newport was a great place to see a show: I was super excited to see them again. The evening started great, met some cool people at a local bar who happened to go to the same college we did, got to the Newport, bought a new t-shirt and started making my way to the front…From there the evening got nutty – a pregnant woman at the front complaining we were in her space (you’re pregnant hunny, take care of your baby!), some girl calling security on me for touching her (I’m 5 foot 3, really????), a guy screaming at me for bumping into him (who was fortunately my height and my huge husband got to yell back at). At this point, my husband was so pissed off we went and stood in the back. The crowd was so obnoxious (although, they all thought I was the obnoxious one) I barely remember the music and now my favorite band in recent years is marred by the weirdest concert I have ever experienced. (And Mikel, what’s with the hat? I couldn’t see your beautiful smile!) Looking back, I’m wondering if the shows I saw in Cleveland were any different? I just didn’t step on any ones toes (literally and figuratively) that I got to dance and have myself one hell of a good time while they sat and watched the show through their smart phones.

What is with these “fans”? Are they all still on Ritalin? Have they never been to a GA show before? Did they think they were at a symphony? Do they even like TATE?

I was at the show on Sunday. This was my tenth show overall, and third at the Newport.

First off, was it the Harrison House B&B at which you stayed? I didn't stay there this time, but I did for the previous Newport show. That place is great.

My experience was still very positive, but I think I know what you're talking about. This was by far the most crowded show at that venue. It seems the newcomers are not as familiar with the material as I'm typically used to TATE fans being. I got some nasty looks for moving around too much and singing too much and too loudly. In the past, the people around me have usually recognized me as a super fan and thought it kind of cool for the most part. I would refer to the crowd as somewhat "testy."

The crowd at the last Newport show was definitely better. I'm thinking this is one of those inevitable outcomes of the band growing in popularity. You shouldn't let your experience sour you on seeing them again. I'm hoping next time they are in C-bus it will be at a slightly bigger venue.

That sucks. People that aren't ready to rock out, dance, and have fun should just stay at home. Dead, boring crowds are lame!

Sounds like your average UK crowd! We tend to like to get our spot and stick with it, people don't tend to move around unless they're moshing!

I found the same in Sheffield (UK) actually. I arrived quite late thanks to work and ended up nearish the back surrounded by a bunch of people that were quite keen to just stand still and watch. I, on the other hand, like to sing and dance and jump and whoop. I got a few people tutting at me and stuff, saying "why don't you go to the front if you're going to behave like that" so.. i moved forwards and they said "hey, you're in our way, we can't see now!". I'm like, jeez.. i can't win. So, i went back to where i was and contented to have myself a good old time.

Got to the front row in London though which was much better. I don't understand people who go to rock gigs and just stand still. Weirdos.

And Dreamcatcher - afraid i disagree with you, people move without moshing! After an incident at a We Are Scientists gig which ended in 3 broken ribs, i no longer mosh. But, i do jump up and down and dance. A lot. And i go to many gigs where this happens without resorting in a full blown mosh (when moshing does occur i now make a hasty retreat to the last row of mosh-activity, so no one is being thrown at me, and i'm unlikely to end up on the floor, but i can still jump til my heart is content!).

I mean don't tend to walk around the venue while the gig is happening. I dance, but stay in the spot I found when I got there. Who knows, maybe I'm the minority. ;-)

I was at the show and stood just off the main floor near the guard rail to the right and didn't notice that vibe where I was. Everyone around me was absolutely rocking out and having a great time. Does anyone happen to remember the setlist or songs that were played. I lost my copy of what I wrote down for verification T_T I just like to look back and see what was played at shows I went to.
