Hi mluna,
I was there and had a fun time! The theatre was very majestic, with heavy red velvet curtains and was a lot larger than I thought it would be. Got there right at 9pm and was worried we'd miss some of it, but everyone was still in line. There was a line for will call and a separate line for those on the guest list. Thankfully the will call line was moving faster than the guest list line. :)
I stopped to ask a woman who was trying to figure out which line to get into, asking her if she was asking about will call. She said no, she was on the guest list. I thought she looked familiar and later, she was sitting in the row behind Mikel, I think she was his mom. :)
Anyway, get inside, get our seats, get some popcorn and a soda and wait. I wasn't sure if the band would introduce the film, but there was no sign of them, and it just started right up with no previews. This was probably about 9:50 or so.
With the opening credits, there was lots of applause for the producers, director, the Calder Quartet, so there must've been a lot of family there for them. :)
The film was fun. Fond memories of being there at the Walt Disney Concert Hall show. There were some funny parts, parts where I cried (like when Mikel dedicated The Book of Love to his grandmother who had just passed away the week before) and it was all I could do to not sing along at the top of my lungs or jump out of my seat and jump around.
It was over way too quickly, maybe an hour and half and the lights came up. We all stood up and applauded and then in the center of the theatre, a group of people stood up--it was Mikel, Anna, Noah, Steven, and Daren. We all applauded some more and then right before I could, another female yelled out "Speech!" so I yelled out "Speech!" too and then others joined in, and so Mikel climbed up on his chair. It was cute, it almost flipped him out of it a couple of times.
Mikel thanked us all for coming, introduced the director who was standing at the back of the room, then the two producers, and finally, their manager, Pete. We all clapped and finally Mikel said if anyone wanted to say hi, they'd be sticking around. I could believe it, people actually started leaving the theatre!
I grabbed my daughter who was with us and told her we were going to go say hi. An older couple was talking to Mikel so I just stood patiently to the side, but the band's photographer kept taking pictures and I have a feeling I was in every one. :P He hugged the couple good bye and as he turned I tapped on his shoulder and said hi.
I asked if he remembered me and he said no, sorry, but then I reminded him we talked about writing at the Troubadour show and then he lit up and said, yeah, I think I remember that! He was pretty buzzed at the Troubadour show so I don't know if he was just trying to make me feeling better or if he really remembered me. :)
Anyway, I told him I loved the movie, that I was there for the show, he totally kept thanking me for coming and asked if I thought it captured the the show well. I told him it totally did. I told him I cried at various parts during the show, and I cried during the movie as well. He asked if it was the part about his grandma and I said yes, but there were other parts that moved me as well. He seemed to like hearing that.
I asked about the new album, he made a face and said it wasn't coming out until January. I told him that was right around the corner and then he perked up and said, "Yeah, it is!" He just said it'd been stressful trying to get it all done, the mixing, etc., and that now he got a bug and is thinking about recording 3 more songs for the album! So lets see if that happens! I'm all for it, as long as it doesn't make the album come out later!
Let's see, what else did he say...oh I told him I would see him in a few weeks at the Ford theatre, and he said he couldn't wait to play new songs, he was getting sick of the old ones. I could never get sick of hearing them but I guess it could start to get old for some people!
Then he turned to my 11 year old and thanked her for coming out, asked her name, and asked if he could give her a hug. So they hugged, Mikel and I hugged, and then I think we left after that.
Out in the lobby they were selling posters, the live CD/DVD set, and the DVD on Blu-Ray. I had to scrounge since they only took cash, and came up with $20 for the live CD/DVD. I'll get the Blu-Ray later. :)
Only bummer of the night was coming out to a $60 parking ticket for parking on a residential street that didn't say anything about no parking. I was pretty pissed and I'm still trying to decide if I should try to fight it.
Anyway, sorry for my long-windedness. If anyone else was there, you should put in your 2 cents, too!
