What was the last album you bought & how good is it?

    Mine was:-

Spotlight Kid (very ltd edition tour version) - Disaster Tourist

Pure shoegaze heaven for me, if you like guitars you'll love this band, they have 3 of them! Saw them support The Joy Formidable in one of their first gigs and saw them again recently in Leeds, they just rock! 9/10 for me, probably my fave album of 2011 so far.

hehehe, uh, it's an album called "All at Once" by a band you probably never heard of, "the airborne toxic event".

    I rarely buy albums...

I doubt a review is necessary xD 236 out of 10 of course.

Well, it's not really an album...I bought Nirvana Live at The Paramount Theatre in Seattle 1991. It was filmed about a month after Nevermind came out so it was before all the fame etc. It was the only Nirvana concert known to have been shot on 16mm film so the quality is GREAT (audio too). It was a Halloween show. There is no fluff - it just starts with a shot of the the crowd outside the theatre and then transports you right to the stage...no commercials, no backstage shots, nothing but the concert in it's entirety so it's like you are there. Beautifully shot with roaming cameras everywhere. There is no editing between songs and Kurt would always let his guitar feedback/ring out between songs so all the guitar noise is really cool. As usual Kurt doesn't say much but Krist is his usual silly self between songs. And Dave, OMG that guy drummed so hard! I rate this 10/10 but then I'm a huge Nirvana/Kurt Cobain fan so I'm kinda biased.

Before that I bought The Talking Heads, Fear of Music (1979)- that band was waaaaaaaay ahead of it's time. Really good. I rate 8/10.

The Monitor by Titus Andronicus is one of the better albums that I have listened to this year.

This Band has an electric sound which is very cool.
Unfortunately some passeges are repeated too often so I'm a bit disappointed

Well, I couldn't remember so I took it as a sign that I should go out and buy one. So, Tom Waits "Bad As Me". It's still in the wrapper, so I can't rate it, but hey, it's TOM WAITS! Anyhow, dh is going to give it to me for Christmas. He just doesn't know it -- yet. He is always so excited to see what he got me in my stocking on Christmas morning ;-).

After the purchase, however, I did seem to be able to shake my memory (funny how that works). So:

    1. Mumford and Sons (Sigh No More)
If you haven't heard almost every song off this album yet, then you must live under a rock (no
insult intended to those who live under a rock). So, I'll leave the rating to each and every one of
you. Personally, I'm deeply in love with the harmonies and the just -- jamming -- guitars. It
sounds like the party I wish I was invited to.

    2. Bright Eyes (The People's Key)
    Hmmm. It's kind of like Conan O'Brien. You're either a fan or you're so ... NOT. I'm personally a
huge Bright Eyes fan (plead the 5th on Conan). I'd buy the album just to listen to the monolog at
the very beginning. Seriously? People actually BELIEVE that stuff? I listen to it over and over
going .... "Really?!? Really?!? People BELIEVE this?!?!?" I'll let you buy the album to find out
what I'm talking about ;-). Oh yeah, the songs are also amazing. Classic Bright Eyes.

    3. Suck It And See (Artic Monkeys)
Two words -- Thank. God. The Arctic Monkeys are back and in fine form. After Humbug I was a little
afraid. I mean, if you're ever in a down mood do NOT listen to Humbug. "My Propeller" alone is
enough to make one consider self-immolation. Myyyyyyyyyyyy ......... Prrooopeeelllleeerr.......
But! We're talking about Suck It And See, so (shaking head to delete Humbug). Suck It And See is
along the line of Favourite Worst Nightmare and Whatever People Say I Am That's What I Am Not.
Which is not to say it's a retread of the same music. It's not. It's just -- The Arctic Monkeys.
You recognize the style. So if you like the band, definately buy it. If you've never heard of the
band or would like to sample them, I'd still direct you towards Favourite Worst Nightmare and
    Whatever.

Alright. Roclawzi? Tag. You're it. I want to hear from you. Tell us what is in your CD changer.

Well, the last album I bought was All At Once by The Airborne Toxic Event. Score? 10/10. Don't think I need to elaborate! :-)

I mostly listen to stuff on Spotify, last thing I "starred" on there was Bombay Bicycle Club's A Different Kind Of Fix. I've given it a bit of a listen but am struggling a little bit to get into it. Seeing them live on New Year's Eve so am hoping they are better live than on record! 5/10 at the moment.

Damn, didn't see you call me out, Gail.

Okay, let's play the random game. I'll shuffle 5 songs in a row off my MP3 player (which has almost all my music on it at this point) and tell you what comes up.

1.Artist- Frank Turner Song-The Real Damage
2.Artist- Tim Minchin (Musician/Comedian) Song- Peace Anthem for Palestine
3.Artist- Vampire Weekend Song- Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa
    4.Artist- Flogging Molly Song- Swagger
5.Artist- Regina Spektor Song- That Time

Some of that is there for running music, and I skipped repeat artists and The Airborne Toxic Event because we know I'm sick for them. It's a lot of randomness, I know.

The last album I bought was Frank Turner's England Keep My Bones, and it's a definite 9 out of 10 for me. I like some of his earlier stuff better, but Frank Turner is firmly cemented as my second favorite after Airborne.

    Tim Minchin is freaking brilliant.

So much different than anything else posted so far, but "Under the Grey Banner" by Dragonland.

I think it's a really well put together album and a worthy follow up of their previous one. Probably one of the best albums I've heard this year. I'd give it a 10/10.

"A Kiss before you go" by Katzenjammer
This band has a really crazy sound and they're playin' quiet a few instrument.
I know these 4 girls from norwegia from the last album which wasn't bad but I must say that this one is much better.
    8/10

New to this forum. I'm really enjoying reading everyone's posts. I don't usually buy an entire album unless I've sampled the majority of songs and really like them, or it's a band that I'm already familiar with and love their body of work. So all of these are ones that I would rate highly; 4-5 star review imho.

I guess All At Once goes without saying. Also really love TATE's live All I Ever Wanted CD. The addition of the Calder Quartet make for some really lush, orchestral arrangements. The previously unrecorded songs are wonderful, as well.

My other favorite release this year has been Dawes' Nothing Is Wrong CD. I'm a huge fan of amazing lyrics and, like TATE, Dawes' lyrics tend to blow me away. Particular favorites on this CD are Time Spent In Los Angeles, Moon In The Water, and A Little Bit of Everything.

Other CD's I've really enjoyed this year are The Head and The Heart's self-titled debut album, with a particular nod to the songs Lost In My Mind, Coeur d'Alene, and Sounds Like Hallelujah. Also, Arctic Monkeys' Suck It And See and The Kooks' Junk Of The Heart.

Eagerly awaiting Mumford & Sons sophomore effort in '12.

Year, I think English is easy to learn but because of that you sometimes can't see clearly where you made a mistake. I'm learning Chinese in school and before I started learning it I also thought it would be difficult. Although this language has nothing in common with languages you normally know it is a really intresting language and not so difficult as I thought :)

I had to learn Latin at school and I didn't like it at all. I guess English is easy enough- learning a language has to be a challenge. :)

I'm also learning Latin in school and I like it :) But the rest of the class don't like Latin and don't wanna chose it for next year.

I think English is just easy to learn as it is a world-wide spoken language. I know there are maybe more people who speak Chinese, but most of them live in China. English on the other hand is everywhere: music, television, movies, articles, blogs, famous writers, ... I am from Belgium, which has three official languages (Dutch/Flemish, French and German), but almost everyone speaks English too. I actually feel more comfortable calling English my second language instead of French.

As for the last album I bought: I started listening to both Lykke Li's albums, trying to decide on buying them and Gotye's 'Making Mirrors'. All three of them are not bad, but I'm glad I didn't go out and bought the albums, since there are only a few songs I really like.
Don't you hate it when you buy an album, only to find out that the songs you knew were good and maybe two or three others. :'(
Best albums recently are: All at once by The Airborne Toxic Event (I don't know if any of you has heard of them) ; Happiness by Hurts ; The soundtrack of Downton Abbey, by John Lunn and all the albums of Pavlov's Dog (which are not recently new albums, but I'm starting to discover my parents old records, mmm).

Year I hate that feeling, too, but I must admit the first impresion of an album aren't that true when think about it later. For example when I heard All at once (this album nobady heard of ;) first, I was very disappionted. I expected that every song would be fantastic after the first listening but after a while I started to like most songs and now this is an album I can hear every time ;)
