I love the "Wishing Song". It's become part of me. In fact, it inspired a poem. Or think of it as alternate lyrics or just how the melody bounced around in my mind.
Numb
I wish I were completely numb,
not feel an ounce of pain,
Care less, never glum,
When down came pouring rain.
I wish I had a million dollars
to blow out to the sea,
And nothing that really matters
would ever trouble me.
I'd climb a mountain, oh, so high,
but always looking down.
And the thought of you walking by
wouldn't run me from this town.
If I could be invincible,
I'd flex my muscles strong,
And sure I'd be a kind of fool
But hard feelings would be gone.
At least, all hard feelings would be gone.
