My sister and I made the drive from northern Maryland down to the Black Cat last night and had a blast. Unlike a lot of people, my first taste of The Airborne Toxic Event came from the video game FIFA 09, where Gasoline gets played on the menu screens. I fell in love with that song and starting checking out everything I could about the band on Youtube and elsewhere. I bought the CD and have been playing it nonstop.
The show was tremendous. I've been to a lot of concerts and the only live experience I've ever had that rivaled TATE has been Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals. TATE was so beautiful last night. I was right up front in front of one of the speakers, so needless to say, my ears are still ringing half a day later. That's not cool, lol, but other than that, no complaints. Well, actually one - I wanted a tour shirt but they didn't have any in XL. I'm hoping they put some up for sale on this website. I also like the sweatshirt for sale here, but they only have it one size. Hopefully that will change.
I knew nothing about Henry Clay People or Alberta Cross before last night, but I'm glad I got there in time to catch them. I bought their CDs and thought they put on good shows. Everyone in TATE sounded great last night. If I hadn't known about Mikel's laryngitis, I never would have been able to tell from last night that the last few weeks have been such a struggle for him. Everybody was so intense on stage, but you could tell they were having a great time. I got to meet Steven and Anna in front of the stage after the show was over and got them both to sign the CD lyrics for me. I am still kicking myself for not getting a picture with them, but I usually don't like taking up too much of people's time if I'm lucky enough to meet them. Still, Steven was a real friendly and humble dude, and Anna looked beautiful and was thanking me for coming when I was trying to thank her for the show, so I wished I'd taken pictures. All in all, a great time, and I hope they still can do a few more intimate shows like this in the mid-Atlantic area before they start selling out arenas and stadiums.
