The thing that i don't get about it is that The Airborne Toxic Event is not credited for the song during the commercial. That is, nowhere in the ad does it explicitly state that the song is called "Wishing Well" by The Airborne Toxic Event.

I have seen other commercials for a few products, and songs by Carolina Liar and Ida Maria, who are other indie artists somewhat similar to The Airborne Toxic Event, were credited in these ads. However, I do not know their music very well, so if it had not been stated on the commercial, I would have had no way of knowing that Carolina Liar and Ida Maria songs were being used in commercials.

Likewise, someone who did not know many songs by The Airborne Toxic Event or had never even heard of them would have no way of knowing that the song on the Buick ad was "Wishing Well." And likely, they would not take much note of the song, since only the instrumental intro is used.

Therefore, I don't really see the Buick commercial as much of a way for The Airborne Toxic Event to get their name out there, since only a fan of the band or someone who had at least heard that one song and remembered it would recognize the song when they saw the ad.

Also, I would think that for legal reasons, Buick would have to "cite their sources," so to speak. The band's music is copyrighted by Universal and not owned by Buick, so I would think that Buick would be required to acknowledge that the song belongs to an actual band by making the song title, artist, and record label known to the viewer through use of captions.

But, then again, I'm no expert in the field of entertainment law, so I could be wrong.
