New Cover Video – “Kiss Off”
Some songs, you don’t remember when you first heard them. They just seem to have always been there, in the background of your life. Everyone was already singing along, knowing when to go quiet and when to start screaming at the top of their lungs. Shit gets fucked up. That’s just how it goes sometimes.
Here’s the latest in our covers series: our homage to the beautiful mess that is Violent Femmes..

Hi guys !
I think you really are a great, I love your album a LOT, and this cover is really good !
I hope you come to France soon.

I’d love it if you’d release these covers as MP3’s! You guys are awesome! 🙂
Gold – like everything else you guys touch! Nice work.
There is only one band that I am as addicted to as I am to yours. Pink Floyd. I had “Wish You Were Here” played at my mother’s funeral and I think your band would do it brilliantly!
Awesome!
Some songs seem to just be made for certain bands to cover, and this just might be one of them. I’m often worried when covers happen; either they change it too much and it bears no resemblance to the original, or it’s too similar (or they try to outright copy the original) and it leaves you wondering why the band performed it outside of practice, small groups, or live showings.
Did I happen to make it abundantly clear that I enjoyed it?
awesome.
i think a cover of “ladykiller” by lush would be hilarious.
Can you guys please do this on the fall tour?
Amazing! Love Kiss Off<3
Ladykiller by Lush… yes, a superb idea, now that would be funny. If I could ask for the ultimate TATE cover surely they could do Johnny Yen by James???
You are great/ so talented; can’t wait to see you in Baltimore in November! You would do an awesome Talking Heads “This Must Be The Place”. I love MGMTs college version of it and would LOVE to hear your more polished version!!
Bravo!!! I saw the VF in concert in 1987. You rocked it.
I see a banana.
Ah, fond memories of the first tape I ever shoplifted. In my day, we had to leave the house to steal music!
Hair standing on neck,
huge VF fan, and great capture of their sound really cool
K so the song grew on me as it went along! Love it! And mikel u crack me up:-)
Mikel is the consummate front man. So cool, confident, yet so fucking awesome with his fans. Seen them twice and they’re easily in my top 5 favorite bands of all times. I wish I could go for a run with that man.
Do a cover of Laid by James……
My God, this is fkcing amazing!
I would love to hear you cover
Stand By Me by Ben E. King
or
My Girl by The Temptations
or
9 Crimes by Damien Rice
Ps. You have no idea who much I am looking forward to seeing you again in October! 🙂 I hope you’ll play this song live then
Great cover. I’d love it if you guys would do “Looking for a Kiss” by the New York Dolls.
A beautiful mess is a great description!
I’m counting down the days to Amsterdam and Glasgow, not long now!
As for covers, I still think you should do something by creedance.
See you soon, Angela x
Wonderful, like everything you guys do! I hope you’ll play it in Munich!
Mikel, what’s with your finger these days? 🙂
That is why music is awesome! I saw ATE at the met in pawtucket RI and they are the best band touring today!!!! Keep it coming! Your joy is contageous!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best live band going!!!! Keep it up!!! Your joy is what makes music great!!!
LOVE!!! Looking forward to seeing y’all in Indianapolis in November!
Awesome, as usual!! I’m throwing it out there again… a Roy Orbison cover. You can give it the Airborne edginess it needs. Back me up, Daren, I caught you sportin’ an Orbison t-shirt and I have the pic to prove it!!! Or perhaps, Lust for Life by the ever eccentric Iggy Pop…
I would like to see you guys put together an album of all your covers.
See, I remember exactly when I first heard this. And I was SO impressed. Think I was 14 or so…. This was one of those albums that got me through high school. I’ve seen the Femmes a few times, and I think they started my upright bass obsession. The Femmes, Morphine, now Airborne. <3!
Great cover, never heard that song before but it do sound great. Btw the slides on the violon and the guitar sound really good
I really feel a cover of any of The Weakerthans songs would be f****** fantastic
You guys are simply amazing. Another great freaking cover! You guys had me singing along just as I do when I hear the femmes version. I love you Airborne Toxic Event! Can’t waint to see you this October, my tickets are just there getting dusty waiting for the day.
Great cover!!! awesome rendition of the song. I think a cover of “Second Chance” by Peter Bjorn and John would be intresting.
Black Betty by Ram Jam (a ’70s band). you have the energy to pull it off.
The Smiths – “There is a light that never goes out”.
see you at the aggie in Ft Collins, CO.! So happy you will go there. Its feasible to go to Ft. Collins when you live in wyoming (where no one, good, ever comes to play)!
Amazing cover. Could you please cover Tom Petty “American Girl” or A Bob Dylan song.
Very nice cover! I’ve been a fan of the Violent Femmes since before they were considered popular! Hopefully Airborne Toxic Event will reach such cultural popularity because they are infinitely better!
On a funny side, you’re looking quite GANGSTA with that hat turned sideways! rofl
I cannot think of a better band to cover the Femmes:) Awesome job!
Love this cover of the Femmes. Please Please Please play it at the Gibson this month. I haven’t been this excited for a concert in years.
Love this cover! I already called friends to check it out. Hope I can get a recording of it some time.
I’d like to see you cover U2’s “All I Want Is You” next.
Seeing your show in about a month in KC and looking forward to it!
Blister in the sun, next? Another song that was always “there” but for some reason, I only remember Claire Danes dancing to it, first episode of my so called life
OK, I get it now. Maybe a Rolling Stones cover? Shine a light / 19th nervous breakdown / waiting on a friend?
How about something traditional? I love Blackjack Davey, and it has one of your big themes: moving on.
Hey Guys, what an Epic show in Houston. Best One SO FAR! And my friend also bought the concert cd/dvd duo. What a moveing film, unlike anything I have ever heard. You guys are an amazing Band, and an inspiration to youth everywhere. It’s real music, unlike all this crap you hear over and over. You guys put so much emotion and creativity in your music. And I feel it, almost to tears sometimes. I haven’t heard a band like this since The Doors. You Guys are up there on my list along with them and Coldplay. REAL MUSIC, REAL FEELINGS, REAL PEOPLE. To soon to say, but I look foward to you 3rd album or a live one, LIVE is always best it’s like a picture being taken without poseing. I have a request on a cover, How bout the Everly Brothers- Bye, Bye Love. Not so punkish, not so rock n’ roll. Just a fun song, even though the lyrics are a bit sad. Sounds like You Guys 🙂 Thank You TATE! Can’t wait for your return to Houston!
Keep up the good work guys. I have “The Boss” cover that you did on my ipod and remember hearing that you guys take requests in the comments section. I think you guys would absolutely kill it with Tears for Fears, “Break it down again.” Looking forward to seeing you perform in Charlotte NC.
Regards,
J
Hey guys and girl. I think you all are pretty amazing. Your music is awesome, I love it and I wish you continued success. I was at the summer block party in Aug. here in Philly. I had a great time! I’m also going to the electric factory on the 20th of Nov. Can’t wait. With that said, I also love Led Zeppelin. I would think it a challenge but I believe in your talents and “Thank You” would be a great cover. So keep writing and singing. Love you guys and Anna. see you soon.
Hello, a new suggestion for you:
Donovan’s Catch the Wind
Thanks, Angela.
